EDC passes resolution supporting priority sectors

The Economic Development Committee of the Regional Development Council 12 recently passed a resolution supporting priority sectors to be the focus industry clusters using the value chain approach as a strategy for boosting regional development.
 In a special EDC meeting held last April 15, 2008, in Koronadal City, the committee identified the clusters based on the agreed criteria of industry growth potential/market demand, regional coverage, and social benefits, to wit: C0ffee; Muscovado; Tourism (Culture, Adventure & Nature); Processed Fish; Processed Fruits; and Information and Communications Technology (ICT);
Other sectors that are recognized to have growth potentials in the region are Palm Oil; Crafts; Crabs; Corn; Coconut; Rice; Processed Meat and Livestock/Hogs.
To ensure appropriate support, Champions from the private sector shall be identified to work jointly with the following lead implementing regional government agencies; DA-Coffee Cluster; DOST-Muscovado Cluster; DOT-Tourism Cluster; BFAR-Processed Fish Cluster; DA & DTI-Processed Fruits Cluster; and DTI-ICT Cluster.

Halal Advocacy Seminars Conducted in Region 12By: Nelly Nita N. Dillera With reports from: Ardeshir U. Bansuan Series of Halal Advocacy Seminars that were conducted in the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Kidapawan and Tacurong City since July this year. The Seminars centered on Halal Certification, Retail Merchandising and Consumer Advocacy. For Halal Certification, the participants were producers and processors who are encouraged to have their products be accredited by Halal Certifying bodies for certification. |

Five (5) Region 12 Entrepreneurs Apply for Collective TrademarksBy: Nelly Nita N. Dillera Two collective marks were launched in Region 12 in time for the visit of Presidential Management Staff Secretary Cerge Remonde to General Santos City who was invited as Keynote Speaker for the Opening of National Tuna Exhibit. These marks are PQ Muscovado applied for by President Quirino Muscovado Millers Cooperative (PQMMPC) based in Sultan Kudarat, and Tupi Bongulan Banana Growers Association (Tubaga) in Tupi, South Cotabato. There are five (5) collective marks applied with the Intellectual Property Office. The other three are Sarap Sarangani, Sarangani Golden Mango and Yaman Gensan. |
